Cabernet Signature Chappellet

Chappellet Winery

Chappellet is recognized as one of the great Napa Valley wineries, and one of the few which remains family owned. Today, the second generation is committed to continuing the vision of their parents, Donn and Molly Chappellet. Together, the siblings are dedicated to maintaining sustainable farming techniques, a relentless focus on wine quality, respect for Pritchard Hill’s natural beauty and the preservation of family ownership for generations to come.

2019 ‘Signature’ Cabernet Sauvignon

For the past three decades, the ‘Signature’ Cabernet Sauvignon has been the flagship of Chappellet. Most of the fruit hails from the famed Pritchard Hill, on vines growing upon the rocky hillside and produce small, intensely concentrated grapes. The crop is thinned in efforts to promote full, even ripening. The wine is a blend of predominately Cabernet Sauvignon, as well as bits of Petit Verdot and Malbec. Aromatically the wine jumps from the glass with notes of ripe black cherries, cassis, fine dark chocolate, as well as oak-influenced espresso, cinnamon, and clove. On the palate, the wine is full of ripe dark berries, and black currants, with spicey lingering flavors of nutmeg, anise, and smoked cedar.

James Suckling

Made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Samantha’s was aged for 22 months in French oak barrels, 68% new. Deep garnet-purple colored, it slips slowly out of the glass with captivating scents of black raspberries, Morello cherries, black currant pastilles and rose oil, followed by suggestions of cedar chest, pencil lead and black olives. The full-bodied palate is charged with amazing energy, featuring vivacious red and black berry layers and a firm backbone of grainy tannins, lifted by refreshing acidity and bags of crunchy fruit on the long finish. 617 cases were made.

Rudd Samantha S

Rudd Estates

Rudd Estate crafts wines that reflect the ultimate expression of its world-class terroir – respecting traditions of the past, challenging the present, and imagining future possibilities. Its team members work together in the relentless and uncompromising pursuit of a shared singular goal: to achieve the absolute pinnacle of our wine’s potential.

2018 Samatha’s Cabernet Sauvignon

In nearly every vintage of the Samatha’s Cabernet Sauvignon, the grapes harvested in 11 separate picks throughout September. The vines grow upon red, andesitic core stone volcanics and lighter gravel/stoney overlay from Rudd alluvial fan and these grapes come from the lower part of said fan. The wine is aged in nearly 90% new French oak. Aromatically the wine has nuances of cassis, blueberries, figs, damp earth, rosemary, and dried purple flowers. On the palate, the wine has a burst of vibrant minerality along with black fruits and sweet tannins.
